Professor Bilston used to be a straight-down-the-line academic, working on Victorian literature, and the study of nineteenth-century texts still engages a great deal of her professional time and interest. However, recently she has begun to write creatively as well, and these days she divides her time between critical and fiction-writing. So, in the course of the next twelve months, Professor Bilston will publish an article on the rise of Victorian gardening journalism in Victorian Literature and Culture and see the US paperback (and British hardback) publication of her novel, Bed Rest (she is currently working on a sequel, Sleepless Nights, which is due to come out in the US in 2008). This combination of interests is a very happy one for her, and she is looking forward to sharing her enthusiasm for both kinds of writing with Trinity students next year.
