Description

The City of New York and its booster waged a campaign to belittle the quality of the land they seized and the character of the people who lived there. Highlighting places like Seneca Village—an African American activist community—my talk will prove the propaganda wrong and illuminate a crucial mechanism and lessons of displacement and redevelopment in nineteenth-century American cities.
