Welcome to the Center for Urban and Global Studies

About CUGS

The Center for Urban and Global Studies plays a critical role in advancing Trinity’s urban and global education on campus, in Hartford, and across the world. The Center serves as a driver, facilitator, convener, and hub for collaborative curricular initiatives, research projects, and engagement activities that enhance student learning and strengthen our connections and support to Hartford communities while broadening and elevating our global presence and academic reputation.

Featured Programs

Global Vantage Point Lecture Series

An annual series of presentations by students and faculty of their urban-based research covering topics from spatial development to economics and from human migration to transportation systems.

Cities Gateway Program

The Cities Program is one of Trinity’s four Gateway programs for a small number of selective first-year students to learn and understand all aspects of cities through a cluster of interdisciplinary courses and experiential curricular activities.

Visiting Scholars Program

The Center is honored to host visiting scholars from around the nation and the world.  These programs would not have been possible without the generosity of the Trustees of Trinity College.

China Summer Program

This new Trinity summer program takes a group of students to Shanghai, Bangkok, Siem Reap and Phnom Penh.  There they will investigate critical historical, socioeconomic and environmental questions confronting these cities.

Student Research Grants

Students have access to a half dozen different grant programs that offer a wide range of academic and experiential opportunities in Hartford, throughout the US, and in Asia.
